	Christmas Card by Jim Linnell
	This beautiful Christmas card, designed and carved by Jim Linnell, can be carved two different ways. It can either be carved as one piece of leather with usual carving technique or it can be carved using the filigree technique. The featured piece was done with the filigree technique using two different pieces of leather. The filigree technique provides extra depth to the finished card. The ribbon and holly was carved on a lighter weight of leather and then glued onto the main card. The leather used was the #9003 Royal Meadow. Keep in mind, when cutting your leather for this project, you will want to include the backside of the card as well. The fold for this card will be on the topside of this pattern.

	Spur Strap Patterns
	Whether you're a real cowboy or doing re-enactments, spur straps are very easy to make. Various weights of leather can be used but a thicker leather will lay the nicest across the boot. For two-piece buckle spur straps, the pattern can be lengthened by adding buckle holes and lengthening the tongue of the billet. To shorten the spur straps, the spur button hole can be shifted in on the billet piece (the one with the buckle holes) of the spur strap. Trace the billet pattern onto the tracing film. Move the tracing film, shifting the location of the button hole away from the spur towards the buckle holes. Trace the new button hole location onto the tracing film. You can only shorten the spur straps a little bit with this method. Be sure to flip the pattern when cutting out your leather. If you don't, you'll have two rights instead of a left and a right.

	Celtic Targe By Jason Pate
	What is a Targe? The english word, targe, is a shortened form of and Old French word, targuette or targete. Today, we pronounce the word as target. But centuries ago, a targe was a small, round shield, held in hand, or sometimes strapped to the arm, and used by a warrior to protect himself from knives and arrows. The information on the downloadable instructions will guide you in making a targe similar to the shields once used in battle.

	2007 Catalog Front Cover Pattern By Jim Linnell
	The front cover artwork was designed, carved, colored and finished by Jim Linnell, the 2002 winner of the Al Stohlman Award for Excellence in Leathercraft. To learn the tooling techniques that Jim used in this carving, you should get Pictorial Carving Finesse #61950-00 and Figure Carving Finesse #61951-00. For instruction on coloring and finishing techniques, get Coloring Leather #61942-00. Jim used the following Craftool Stamps: A104, A98, A99, F871, F872, F890, F891, F895, F898, F899, F900, F902, F910, F912L, F913R, F917, F916, F925, F926, F933, F976, F989. 	Here are a couple of notes about the coloring and finishing on this project: 1) After completing the carving and before applying any color, Jim applied a coat of Tandy Block Finish #22014 to create a consistent surface for color application. 2) For coloring, use acrylic craft paints and start at the foreground and work to the background, going from lighter tones to darker tones. Use our Red Sable Hair Brushes #3441-03. 3) The picture was finished with an acrylic matte spray to avoid smearing or beading which might happen with a rub on finish.

	Two Corner Patterns By Tony Laier
	Designs may be enlarged or reduced to suit your needs. Use on checkbooks, clutch purses, day planners, book covers, etc. Try with or without cut borders. A swivel knife and blade were used to cut the lines and the following Craftool® stamps were used to create the tooled left design: A104, B701, B936, C431, F976, H907, P213, P217, S631, U853 and V407. The right design was created using these Craftool stamps: A104, B60, B202L, B202R, B203, B701, B702, P369 (discontinued, sub P368), S631, U858 and V406.

	Pennsylvania Dutch Pattern By Al Stohlman
	This pattern is taken from an out-of-print book "Leather and Wood, Vol. I", by Al Stohlman. The inverted style pattern measures 4-1/2" x 7-1/2". For more patterns and instructions on how to do inverted style carving, get "Inverted Carving" by Al Stohlman. A swivel knife and blade were used to cut the lines and the following Craftool® stamps were used to create the tooled design: B201, B203, B935, P368, P974, S631, S632, S633, S717, S932 and U851.

	2006 Catalog Cover by Tony Laier
	This year's cover design was taken from a late 1950's - early 1960's sketch by Al Stohlman for a proposed cover for a Craftool Co. catalog cover (never used) which we recently found in our Al Stohlman archives. It was tooled, dyed and finished by Tony Laier, Tandy Leather Factory's Director of Reasearch and Developement. Al's original hand drawn tracing patteren and the list of Craftools that Tony used to create the tooling can be found on page 127.

	This is a 8-1/4" x 5-1/2" carving that Al created in 1962 for a handbag. It is about the right size to fit on our Cassi Handbag Kit #44307-00, and can also be scaled to fit projects that are larger or smaller. Click on the image for a larger view. 	Floral Billfold Pattern by Al Stohlman
	This free pattern is an oldie from the 1960's by Al Stohlman. Al used the following Craftool Stamps: to create this design: B198, B936, F898, F900, F976, H907, P234, P368, S632, S705, S706, S932, U853 and V462. After the tooling was completed, Al removed the background areas (called filigree) and glued a piece of suede behind the tooling. To filigree the design, he used a craft knife and round drive punches. It's pretty intricate work. Of course, you don't have to do the filigree work to create this pattern. Just use Craftool stamps A104-2 and A104 to background the filigree areas. If you like this pattern, Al Stohlman's Top 20 book #66038-00 has 19 more wonderful patterns for men's and ladies billfolds. Plus, it has three styles of traceable alphabet patterns with instructions on how to weave them into a tooling pattern, instructions on how to filigree a pattern, how to hand sew and double loop stitch and more. It's a great book!

	Mixed Floral Corner Pattern by Jim Linnell
	Perfect pattern for a notebook or photo album. Actual size is approximately 9-3/4 in. by 7-1/4 in. But, you're not confined to using the pattern actual size, you can scale it to fit projects that are larger or smaller. Jim used the following Craftool Stamps to create the pattern: A104-2, A104, B701, B702, B936, C455, C831, F899, F900, H907, J520, P215, P234, P209, S705, U853, V406 and V708. Other tools used were: Hair Blade Tool #8801300 on the stems, Al Stohlman Brand Swivel Knife #35050-01 with Al Stohlman Brand Swivel Knife Blade #35051-03. Finishing Technique 1) After tooling is complete and leather has completely dried, apply a coat of Neat Lac using a piece of sheep'swool. 2) After Neat Lac has completely dried, apply a liberal coat of Mahogany Fiebing's Antique Finish with a piece of sheep's wool. Remove excess with a paper towel as soon as possible. 3) After antique has dried, apply a light coat of Tan-Kote with a piece of wool. Buff lightly with another piece of wool as Tan-Kote is drying.

	The front cover tooling on our 2004 catalog was created by Tony Laier, Director of Research and Development for Tandy Leather Factory and 1999 winner of the Al Stohlman Award for Achievement in Leathercraft.
